9th Grade Honors English
Dr. Gingrich
Groups of no more than 6.
Due by March 29th.

Create a film or a live presentation which uses a science fact to create a work of science fiction. The science fact could be from your biology class or a previous class or it could be from your general knowledge. Films or presentations should be 3-7 minutes in length. They can happen in the past, the present, or in the future. All member of your group should participate in the presentation. Give your presentation a title. Explain what the scientific principle is that you are learning.
Examples
Science fact:
Mars was once warm and wet.
Fictional Possibility: Life began on Mars when it was warm and wet. Then in a bizarre collision with an asteroid, life was transmitted to Earth. Who knows, maybe some of our ancestors still live under the surface of Mars….
Science Fact:
Geneticists can clone cats & sheep, genetically engineer the foods we eat, or manipulate a patient's stem cells to wipe out once-incurable diseases.
Fictional Possibility:
Why not clone from DNA an extinct, 40 foot tall predator and make an amusement park based on it?

Science Fact:
Mechanical devices can improve life for people.
Fictional possibility:
What if robots took over the world?
Below are some science fiction concepts that you use (you can use the concept even if it is something that has already happened—just making the setting the past or make it seems at though the story was set in the past, and the actual “present” is the story’s future)
Science Fiction Movies which predicted some science fiction concepts:

Below are some promises of science that have or have not happened by 2010. Many things that seemed at once to be science fiction in the past have turned into reality; however, other things still are beyond the realm of our experience.
